Prairie Thunder Railroad

Prairie Thunder Railroad

The Prairie Thunder Railroad is a huge hit with children of all ages. The train takes you on a tour of a native prairie landscape, featuring a few animal exhibits along the way. Get your tickets in the Gift Shop and listen for the "All Aboard" whistle!

Dinosaur Dig Area

There are lots of fun and exciting things for kids to do in our Dinosaur Dig area at the Hutchinson Zoo. You can uncover dinosaur fossils or enjoy the skull slide!

Wildlife Aviary

Enjoy a nature walk through Kansas. From marsh to forest, it features birds in free flight and American Beavers.

Prairie Inhabitors

This exhibit features prairie dogs and a sample of the countless creatures that visit their towns. Children can view the prairie dogs through a specially designed tunnel to safely get up close to these timid creatures.

World Biomes Building

World Biomes Building

This complex of exhibits highlight different habitats around the world. Visitors will learn about how animals are uniquely adapted to survive in a variety of conditions.

Nature Play Expansion

The Nature Play Expansion and Splash River are gearing up for you! Next summer you can dip your toes in the naturalistic creekbed and see if you can spot all of the animal tracks in the basin. This fully accessible area will be a great place to spend some hot summer days in 2023!

Bison Experience

Coming Soon! For the first time in The Hutchinson Zoo’s history, guests will be able to have an up-close interaction with the bison. Bison have been an integral part of the Zoo since its inception. The Bison Experience will further renovate the south end of the Zoo, adjacent to the new Nature Play Expansion and the otter exhibit. This project will allow Zoo guests to see bison up close and provide viewing of the adjacent pronghorn and white-tailed deer.
