The Hutchinson Friends of the Zoo (FOTZ) is a dynamic and fast-growing nonprofit support organization of the Hutchinson Zoo is seeking dedicated and visionary individuals to join our Board and contribute to the success of the Hutchinson Zoo.
Friends of the Zoo, Inc. was formed to raise funds to support zoo expansion and improvement, including new exhibits and attractions.

To promote the welfare and continued improvement of the Hutchinson Zoo as a cultural, educational, and recreational asset to the City of Hutchinson, KS.

Experience in nonprofit leadership, board governance, business, education, fundraising or related fields.
Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
Commitment to attending Board meetings, participating in discussions, and contributing actively to the organization’s success.
Bonus Points
We highly value candidates who bring additional expertise and connections that align without mission and goals. While not mandatory, the following qualifications would be considered a strong advantage in helping us attain our vision:
Fundraising or Grantor Experience: To run a nonprofit and help it scale, funding is crucial, and we would greatly benefit from a professional in this space.
Conservation: If you have a track record of supporting conservation and environmental causes, working in similar organizations, or advocating for conservation, your expertise will complement our mission.
Corporate Partnerships: Individuals with experience in corporate partnerships, sponsorships, or fundraising within the corporate sector can help FOTZ secure resources for the Zoo funding opportunities and program expansion.
General Board Expectations
Maintain a membership with Friends of the Zoo. While membership at the single or family level is acceptable, Board Members are strongly encouraged to participate at one of the contributing levels.
Apply your experience and skills to support the Friends of the Zoo mission, purpose, goals, policies, and programs while identifying the strengths and needs of the Hutchinson Zoo.
Participate actively in at least two organization-sponsored fundraising committees, special events, programs, and/or activities per year.
Attend Board Meetings: The Board will gather for scheduled meetings every other month. The location will be at the Hutchinson Zoo Visitor’s Center, 6 Emerson Loop East in Cary Park, unless otherwise noted.
Leverage your skills, experience, and network to support Friends of the Zoo fundraising strategies and secure resources to further our impact.
Collaborate with fellow board members and zoo staff to implement strategic plans for FOTZ and for the Hutchinson Zoo.
Act as an ambassador for the Zoo, promoting our mission, programs, and initiatives to our community and beyond.
